We also prepare students for the PLIDA exams. A PLIDA certification is a valid qualification for applications of Italian citizenship and long-term residence permit in Italy. PLIDA can also be used to enrol into universities or schools without taking the mandatory Italian language examinations.

Italian for beginners: enjoy our beginner Italian courses Sydney

Beginner / Principianti (Level A1)

Based on: Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)

Aims

This beginner Italian course is ideal for anyone who doesn’t know Italian at all. You will learn basic greetings, how to express likes and dislikes, and how to present yourself. Grammatical elements are also introduced, and you will start to work on your speaking and listening skills. Nouns, articles and prepositions use are introduced along with basic pronunciation, writing and reading skills. The course is delivered as a series of interactive workshops, where active participation is encouraged.

Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Introduce yourself and greet others at an initial meeting
  • Denote possession
  • Talk about yourself
  • Make a short personal presentation
  • Describe employment and place of work
  • Ask for directions

Aims

This course aims to consolidate and develop knowledge previously gained and introduce more complex language structures.

Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Use adjectives to describe people, places and events
  • Use the conditional to express desires and possibilities
  • Arrange to meet a friend or a colleague
  • Identify some of the cultural aspects of living in Italy and compare these aspects with those of other countries

Intended audience

Suitable for A2-level students, those who have have some prior knowledge of Italian.

Delivery style

Delivered as a series of interactive workshops using a communicative approach whereby you are encouraged to use the language through group work and pair work, as well as being exposed to the language through guided video and audio work followed by discussion and practice. Each session focuses on one or more language topics/grammatical points and is conducted in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

Advanced Italian courses: enjoy Italian conversation with our teachers

Advanced, Conversation, & Culture (Level B1)

Based on: Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)

Italian with Italy’s regions – Italiano con le regioni d’Italia

Join our Italian conversation course and practice confidently expressing yourself in a range of contexts. This course is particularly focused on Italy’s different regions and the cities, arts, culture, and history therein. This course is designed for anyone who has completed an A2-level of study or has good prior knowledge of Italian.

Each week we will talk about a different Italian region among the 20 of this stunning country, along with assigned pre-reading materials and (few) related grammar exercises. We will discuss the cities, art, culture, food, architecture, and history of each of Italy’s regions. We may also discuss a contemporary topic of cultural interest that is relevant to a particular region, for example its people, society, culture, traditions, scientific contribution, and fun facts. 

Aims 

The aim of this course is to develop your understanding of Italy’s culture and history by enhancing your language proficiency. 

Outcomes 

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Fluently describe social, artistic, or cultural issues
  • Discuss important Italian cultural events
  • Express your opinion on politics and the arts
  • Demonstrate an understanding of Italy and its people
  • Confidently read regional menus and know how to place an order in a restaurant

Content 

The course content is divided according to the 20 Italian region. We will start with Friuli Venezia Giulia and work our way through all regions. We will discuss the unique diversity of the Italian regions with all their beauty and fascinating histories. Our focus when discussing each region will be:

  • History
  • Arts and culture
  • Cultural events
  • Politics and the arts
  • Food & wine
  • The local people

You will learn to confidently discuss and express your opinion on each of these topics. Each week you will receive the materials for the next class with instructions regarding the most important things to read or watch.

Delivery style 

Tutorial/workshop style. Learning materials are presented and discussed in an open classroom environment and in small groups (of 4 to 6). Reading materials are shared one week ahead of class. All pre-reading is not compulsory, although you are encouraged to take the recommended readings to ensure a greater understanding.
