Our Italian courses are held online to give our students the flexibility they need, and our teachers are highly-qualified Italian professionals to give you the best possible experience. You can meet some of our teachers here.

We also prepare students for the PLIDA exams. A PLIDA certification is a valid qualification for applications of Italian citizenship and long-term residence permit in Italy. PLIDA can also be used to enrol into universities or schools without taking the mandatory Italian language examinations. PLIDA Sydney

Italian for beginners: enjoy our beginner Italian courses Sydney

Beginner / Principianti (Level A1)

Based on: Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)

Level A1

This beginner Italian course is ideal for anyone who doesn’t know Italian at all. You will learn basic greetings, how to express likes and dislikes, and how to present yourself. Grammatical elements are also introduced, and you will start to work on your speaking and listening skills. Nouns, articles and prepositions use are introduced along with basic pronunciation, writing and reading skills. The course is delivered as a series of interactive workshops, where active participation is encouraged.

Level A1.2

Keen to try something slightly more advanced, but still for beginners? Then you could try the level A1.2. Suitable for A1 level students, those who have completed Beginner A1, or who have completed 20 hours of recent tuition. This beginner A1.2 course follows on from Beginner A1 course. It covers topics including likes and dislikes, describing places and making a hotel reservation. Grammatical development is emphasised through various speaking, listening and writing exercises.

Level A1.4

Why not try the level A1.4? Topics including the weather, past events, family, various games, and city locations. Speaking, listening and writing skills are consolidated and further expanded to cover the use of pronouns, ordinal numbers and various expressions of quantity.

Level A1.5

Still a beginner but not an absolute novice? Then why not try the level A1.5? This course is the last course in the beginner program. It covers topics including shopping, asking for medical assistance, describe an illness, talk about your job, and give advises and instructions. Speaking, listening and writing skills are consolidated and further expanded to cover the use of direct pronouns, the imperative and imperfetto past tense.

Level A2.2

Suitable for A2 level students, those who have completed Intermediate A2, or who have completed 100 hours of recent tuition. This Intermediate A2.2 course follows on from Intermediate A2 course. It covers topics describing past events, ask for medical assistance, describe an illness. Grammatical development is emphasised through various speaking, listening and writing exercises.

Advanced Italian courses: enjoy Italian conversation with our teachers

Advanced, Conversation, & Culture (Level B1)

Based on: Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)

Italian with Italy’s regions – Italiano con le regioni d’Italia

Join our Italian conversation course and practice confidently expressing yourself in a range of contexts. This course is particularly focused on Italy’s different regions and the cities, arts, culture, and history therein. This course is designed for anyone who has completed an A2-level of study or has good prior knowledge of Italian.

Each week we will talk about a different Italian region among the 20 of this stunning country, along with assigned pre-reading materials and (few) related grammar exercises. We will discuss the cities, art, culture, food, architecture, and history of each of Italy’s regions. We may also discuss a contemporary topic of cultural interest that is relevant to a particular region, for example its people, society, culture, traditions, scientific contribution, and fun facts. 

Aims 

The aim of this course is to develop your understanding of Italy’s culture and history by enhancing your language proficiency. 

Outcomes 

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Fluently describe social, artistic, or cultural issues
  • Discuss important Italian cultural events
  • Express your opinion on politics and the arts
  • Demonstrate an understanding of Italy and its people
  • Confidently read regional menus and know how to place an order in a restaurant

Content 

The course content is divided according to the 20 Italian region. We will start with Friuli Venezia Giulia and work our way through all regions. We will discuss the unique diversity of the Italian regions with all their beauty and fascinating histories. Our focus when discussing each region will be:

  • History
  • Arts and culture
  • Cultural events
  • Politics and the arts
  • Food & wine
  • The local people

You will learn to confidently discuss and express your opinion on each of these topics. Each week you will receive the materials for the next class with instructions regarding the most important things to read or watch.

Delivery style 

Tutorial/workshop style. Learning materials are presented and discussed in an open classroom environment and in small groups (of 4 to 6). Reading materials are shared one week ahead of class. All pre-reading is not compulsory, although you are encouraged to take the recommended readings to ensure a greater understanding.
