The secrets of a long life in the Aspromonte in Calabria

A talk by Anna Lanzani


In Calabria in the mountainous area of the Aspromonte, there are several villages with a population with the highest longevity in Italy. A healthy diet, an active life and a favourable social environment are thought to be the elements making part of such longevity. Which are these secrets? The healthy, genuine food of the Dieta Mediterranea? the clean air of the wooded mountains? the hard work? The tight social context?


There is abundant literature on the subject, and it is continuously growing. In this talk, in a friendly exchange with the inhabitants of these “long lived” villages we will presenting their secrets and their own point of view.


Anna Lanzani is an Italian food writer with a background in humanities and nearly 20 years of management experience in international food Companies. Anna is an active member of the Accademia Italiana della Cucina and has a blog of historical Italian cooking, mainly roman and medieval: storiaincucina.food.blog. Anna lived, worked and studied in the US, UK, France, Japan, China, Australia and is currently based in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
